Mdm Goh Guat Lan started out in the 1980s at Chinatown Point, one of Singapore's very first food courts, selling hotplate noodles and claypot dishes like herbal chicken soup and curry chicken under the name Hup Lee 合利. Customers kept coming back for that full, umami, shiok flavour, and she cooked her way through food courts all through the 90s. In 2003 she landed at The Arcade and opened Hup Lee Eatery, selling mixed rice and a fish soup with no name — the bowl that became Arcade Fish Soup. In 2005 came Yi Jia Chun 一家村, with herbal soups and curry chicken, named for her kampung in Mandai. Today her sons Eric and Wei Sheng carry it on, and you can still get the original bowl at The Arcade.
About that name: village is cun 村 in Hanyu Pinyin, so “Chun” started as a typo on the company registration. Chun is also the name of Eric's father, so the family kept it.
Mdm Goh Guat Lan has been cooking since the 1980s. Today her sons Eric and Wei Sheng run the brands across the CBD — same broth, same bowl, same stubbornness about doing it properly.

The broth is boiled fresh daily rather than held over. Mdm Goh Guat Lan has been cooking for food-court crowds since the 1980s, and the fish soup began in 2003 as a stall with no name at her Hup Lee Eatery in The Arcade. You can still get the original bowl there today.
